How to Apply for Georgia's Program

Program: Georgia Special Needs Scholarship / Education Savings Account

Deadline: Annual application cycle; check GaDOE for dates

Georgia's school choice programs are income-based. The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (GSNS) is for students with disabilities and has no income limit. The broader ESA program is limited to lower-income families (below ~200% FPL). Georgia also has a large Qualified School Choice Tax Credit scholarship system through approved Student Scholarship Organizations (SSOs), which operates separately. Check GaDOE and the Georgia Private School Scholarship Organization list for current program details.

1

Confirm your school is approved

Private schools must be accredited and registered with the state program to accept voucher or ESA students. Contact the school directly or check the program's approved school list.

2

Gather documents

Typically: child's birth certificate, proof of state residency, income documentation (recent tax return or pay stubs), and current school enrollment records.

3

Apply before the window closes

Annual application cycle; check GaDOE for dates. Programs with fixed windows often have waitlists. Apply on the first day the portal opens.
