How to Apply for Arizona's Program
Program: Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA)
Deadline: Rolling enrollment year-round
Arizona's ESA is the oldest universal program in the country. Funds go into a state-controlled account (ESA Card) you can spend on tuition, tutoring, curriculum, therapy, and assessments at approved vendors. The program is run by the Arizona Department of Education. Applications are processed year-round — expect 2–4 weeks for approval.
Confirm your school is approved
Private schools must be accredited and registered with the state program to accept voucher or ESA students. Contact the school directly or check the program's approved school list.
Gather documents
Typically: child's birth certificate, proof of state residency, income documentation (recent tax return or pay stubs), and current school enrollment records.
Apply before the window closes
Rolling enrollment year-round. Programs with fixed windows often have waitlists. Apply on the first day the portal opens.
