Program: Education Freedom Account (EFA)
Deadline: Enrollment opens summer 2026 for fall 2026 launch
Texas's Education Freedom Account is the highest-value universal ESA in the country at $10,474/student/year. The program was signed into law in 2025 and begins enrollment in summer 2026 for the 2026–27 school year. Any Texas K–12 student can apply. Funds will be administered through the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Sign up for notifications on the TEA website — the application portal is being built now.
Confirm your school is approved
Private schools must be accredited and registered with the state program to accept voucher or ESA students. Contact the school directly or check the program's approved school list.
Gather documents
Typically: child's birth certificate, proof of state residency, income documentation (recent tax return or pay stubs), and current school enrollment records.
Apply before the window closes
Enrollment opens summer 2026 for fall 2026 launch. Programs with fixed windows often have waitlists. Apply on the first day the portal opens.
