How to Apply for Montana's Program

Program: Innovative Educational Program

Deadline: Annual application cycle

Montana's Innovative Educational Program provides a smaller benefit ($2,500/yr per student) than most other state programs. Eligibility is limited to families earning below 300% of the federal poverty level. The program is administered by the Office of Public Instruction. Montana also has a parallel tax credit scholarship program through approved Student Scholarship Organizations (SSOs).

1

Confirm your school is approved

Private schools must be accredited and registered with the state program to accept voucher or ESA students. Contact the school directly or check the program's approved school list.

2

Gather documents

Typically: child's birth certificate, proof of state residency, income documentation (recent tax return or pay stubs), and current school enrollment records.

3

Apply before the window closes

Annual application cycle. Programs with fixed windows often have waitlists. Apply on the first day the portal opens.
